PhiLep Admins Shine in Visayas and Mindanao!

We started the 4th quarter of 2018 with a talk by Philippine Lepidoptera Inc. (PhiLep) admin and officer Dr. Romana Pahilanga Delos Reyes at University of Saint La Salle in Bacolod on October 1st. The topic was “Butterflies of Bago: How to make your garden a haven of butterflies”. Discussed were basic introduction of Philippine butterflies and their families, butterfly host and nectaring plants and personal experiences on butterfly rearing on her open butterfly garden in Bago, Negros Occidental. Romana or TeRoms as we fondly call her had fun sharing her knowledge with BS Bio students and teachers. A result of the knowledge she shared was those in charge of the botanic center for La Salle decided to make it an open butterfly garden!

From L-R, Felix Querubin, faculty member of the Chemistry Dept; Dr. Lilian Planella, Science Laboratory Coordinator including the botanical garden; Ms. Anita Jacildo, faculty member of the Chemistry Dept.; Dr. Eva Grace Chavez, Dept Chair of the Natural Science Dept.; Dr. Romana Pahilanga-Delos Reyes; Jacob Carl DeLos Reyes, and Ms. La Vera Sombito, point person for the botanical garden.

October 5th is another great day for PhiLep in Mindanao. PhiLep admin Harvey Salas Salaga presented his paper “Inventory of Butterflies in Davao City, Philippines with a New Locality Record: An Urban Biodiversity” at the 1st Sustainable Davao Research Symposium. He was one of the winners of “Best SDG Oriented Study”! The local council of Davao were so impressed that they will promote and implement more green spaces in the city! They also would like to invite Philippine Lepidoptera for talks on their future plans for a green city.

The co-authors of the study are Tristan Senarillos, Jade Aster Badon and Leana Lahom-Cristobal.
