New Locality Record of a Rare Butterfly!
On November 29, 2014 Mr. David Leviston submitted a photo specimen of a butterfly photographed in General Santos, South Cotabato, Mindanao. It caught the attention of PhiLep Admin Ja-a Badon and immediately he sent the photo specimen to Mr. Colin G. Treadaway (one of the top authorities on Philippine butterflies). The specimen was verified by Mr. Treadaway as GRASS JEWEL, Freyeria putli gnoma and that it is a new locality record in General Santos, South Cotabato, Mindanao, Philippines. The butterfly species is rare and the recorded distribution is only Luzon and Cebu (Treadaway and Schroeder 2012), and Negros (Badon 2014).
