Chasing Moths with Sir Rey!

For two weekends PhiLep member Rey. M. Abellada led members of the Cordilleran's Photo Sharing group Johnnie Walker, Daniel McDavid and PhiLep Admin Linda Alisto to a photowalk in search for moths and other insects. Mr. Abellada is an awarded photographer and is very adept at taking macro photos. He coached and guided attendees to places in Baguio City where moths abound.

Moths are great subjects for macros and are very photogenic while nectaring on flowers.

Taking photos of these beautiful creatures creates awareness on their beauty and importance in the environment. They pollinate flowers while feeding on their nectars and so help in seed production. Both adult moths and their caterpillars are food for a wide variety of wildlife. Areas rich in moths are rich in other invertebrates!

Notable finds during the photowalk are Neochera cf. marmorea, Cypa decolor,

and unique caterpillars and moths eggs!

* Moths are most abundant in Baguio City during the last week of June to mid July.
